Paper, scissors and shoe

Work for the Camberwell Arts Festival has commenced this week here in the studio. Building a series of colourful paper models for the event which will later be photographed... Here's a sneaky peak at some quirky paper brogues and sign I completed earlier today for one of the models.

Circuit boards...? Cardboard

I'm still waiting for the official photos of this video shoot from a few months back but in the meantime I figure I'd pop these up (most were taken whilst still in the early stages of production). I worked as production manager on this music video, set dressing, designing and creating the robot costumes pictured here as well as additional props, miniatures and life size toy box. Busy week that one.

Just my type

Paper model of a type writer that I keep forgetting to finish but will eventually be used on the site. Eventually.

Backing Britain

In other news I've just found these lovely pics on the This is Your Kingdom site, and with all the British pride and bunting floating about at the moment as we warm up for the Queen's Jubilee and the Olympics I thought it would be very fitting to share. The girls at TiYK put on a beautiful display to show case TiYK and their 'Back Britain' campaign back in January. They invited passers-by to share their best kept secrets of Britain by pinning them on my illustrated map and did such a fab job of using my web illustrations in new and inventive ways for the event. Gorge!

Universal Studios

I've became reacquainted with plaster of Paris today. Relatively painless. And still the quickest and easiest way to create a mini universe. Here are some snaps of a quick planet experiment tried out today; testing textures and weight for the planets to suspend (with the help of some subtle mono filament) in the 'space set.'
The work continues.
This is a quick cardboard mock-up to work out the design for a life size space-ship cockpit made from... yes. Cardboard. Tricky as it must be transportable, collapsable and fully functional as a film set.

Getting Hitched

My cousin Sandra is getting tying the knot later this month and for the lover of all things vintage and retro, we are throwing her a 1950's housewife bridal shower/ hen night. Here are the invites I rustled up. Inspired by magazine domestic product adverts from the era, it was created with a little help from some genuine 1950's photographs, Facebook profiles and Photoshop stamp tool. God bless Adobe. And the happy couple!

Spacey... without the Kevin.

Actually this post has no connection with Kevin Spacey what so ever. Apart from a loose association with the word 'Space.' It's late...
Still working on ongoing hush hush 'Spaceship' Project. Made a few maquette spaceships from standard modelling clay to establish form etc for the real model.
I'm thinking I'd like it to be somewhere between a gorgeous 1960's sci-fi spaceship/ Bond-like submarine, a 17th Century flying machine and a blimp. Current playlist: John Williams. Work continues.
Incidentally a friend informed me today that the world's supply of helium is in trouble! Terrible.
Imagine, in 30 years children will be leaving fair grounds with their balloons dragging behind them like strangled dogs. We'd be deprived of fully grown men that, for about 30 seconds, sound like that bloody annoying shrill maid in Gone With The Wind. Or the singing rat trio in Babe... (Why are they there...?)
Put a real downer on the day.
